Real Madrid sign Marco Asensio from PSG in €20m deal
Real Madrid have completed the signing of midfielder Marco Asensio from Paris Saint-Germain for a reported €20 million, according to club sources. The 28-year-old Spaniard has agreed a four-year contract with the La Liga champions, returning to Spain after a one-season spell in Ligue 1.
Asensio previously spent seven seasons at Real Madrid from 2016 to 2023, making 285 appearances and winning three Champions League titles before joining PSG last summer. His return addresses Madrid's need for experienced depth in attacking midfield following Lucas Vázquez's departure, while PSG recoups most of their initial €22m investment despite limited starting opportunities for the player last season.
The move reunites Asensio with manager Carlo Ancelotti, under whom he scored 19 goals during their previous tenure together. PSG's decision to sell aligns with their strategy to streamline the squad after last season's Champions League disappointment. Asensio is expected to compete with Brahim Díaz and Arda Güler for minutes behind Jude Bellingham in Madrid's revamped midfield structure.
This marks Real Madrid's third summer signing following Kylian Mbappé's arrival and the renewal of Luka Modrić's contract. The transfer window closes on 1 September for La Liga clubs.
