AC Milan fans in poll favour selling Leao but keeping Pulisic and Maignan
A majority of AC Milan supporters have indicated they would be in favour of the club selling forward Rafael Leao this summer, according to a fan poll conducted by La Gazzetta dello Sport. The survey, which garnered over 5,000 responses, revealed a stark divide in opinion on the Portuguese international's future, with 76% of voters leaning towards a departure and only 24% wanting him to stay.
The poll, reported by the Italian newspaper, suggests fan sentiment has turned due to a combination of factors. Leao's high net salary of 5.5 million euros per season plus bonuses, recurring physical problems that have impacted his form in the 2025-26 campaign, and a perceived weakening of his bond with the club are cited as key reasons. Leao has been at Milanello since his arrival from Lille in 2019.
In contrast, the survey points to overwhelming support for goalkeeper Mike Maignan, with 87% of fans wanting him to remain. Maignan, who now captains the side, signed a contract extension in January amid previous speculation about a free transfer. His performances this season are described as being of the highest level, cementing his status as a fan favourite and a leader in the dressing room.
The future of defender Fikayo Tomori is also in question, according to the poll results. The English centre-back, at the club for five and a half seasons, saw 54.5% of respondents vote for a sale. Despite his strong connection to Milan and experience, his performances in a back four alongside newcomer Strahinja Pavlovic are noted as having been inconsistent. Midfielder Youssouf Fofana faces a similar, albeit narrower, margin, with 52.8% favouring a departure.
One clear figure fans want retained is American attacker Christian Pulisic. Despite a recent goal drought in 2026, 77.5% of voters believe he should stay. The poll highlights his superb performances since his arrival in the 2023-24 season, his versatility across three forward positions, and a salary considered reasonable at 4 million euros per season as reasons for his continued popularity.
The survey was conducted with seven Serie A matchdays remaining in the season and Milan's qualification for next season's Champions League still to be secured. While fan polls are not indicative of official club policy, they offer a snapshot of the mood among a significant section of the supporter base as the club plans for the future. The results suggest a potential appetite for a significant squad refresh, with established stars like Leao and Tomori no longer seen as untouchable by a vocal portion of the fanbase.
