Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi has spoken publicly about his future at the club, acknowledging ongoing uncertainty as contract negotiations stall and interest from Aston Villa emerges.
The 24-year-old has one year remaining on his current deal with Dortmund, and discussions regarding an extension have yet to yield a breakthrough. According to a report from The Athletic, Adeyemi is now considering a move away from Signal Iduna Park this summer, with Aston Villa identified as a club monitoring his situation.
Speaking to Ruhr Nachrichten, Adeyemi emphasized his continued commitment to Dortmund while simultaneously expressing a desire for clarity regarding his role within the team. “I have stated my commitment to Dortmund often enough. I don’t think I need to keep repeating it,” he stated. He further elaborated on his need for open communication from the club, stating, “I want to play for a club that plans with me and communicates that clearly to me.”
Adeyemi stressed the importance of direct dialogue with the club’s management, regardless of the eventual outcome of negotiations. “For me, it is important to sit down with me and my management and speak openly – regardless of whether the answer is yes or no in the end,” he said. The German international also refuted some of the reporting surrounding his potential demands, highlighting a disconnect between media speculation and reality.
“I often only find out about many things through the media or because they are sent to me – and they are simply not true. For example, when it comes to salary demands or things like that,” Adeyemi added. He joined Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg in 2022 for a reported fee of €30 million, and has become a regular starter for Edin Terzić’s side, contributing 12 goals and 9 assists in 61 Bundesliga appearances.
Aston Villa, under Unai Emery, are building a squad capable of challenging for European qualification, and Adeyemi’s pace and direct running style could be a valuable asset. Dortmund, meanwhile, are navigating a period of transition and may be open to selling Adeyemi if a suitable offer arrives and a contract renewal proves impossible. The situation will likely become clearer in the coming weeks as the summer transfer window progresses, and could see Adeyemi seek a new challenge in the Premier League.
