Dick Advocaat has been reappointed as the manager of the Curaçao national team, the Federashon Futbòl Kòrsou (FFK) confirmed on Wednesday. The 78-year-old returns to the role just weeks before the start of the 2026 World Cup, which will run from June 11th to July 19th.
Advocaat’s return follows the departure of Fred Rutten, who made his position available, prompting the FFK to move quickly to secure the experienced Dutch manager. Discussions are currently underway between the FFK and Advocaat to finalize the details of his appointment.
Advocaat previously managed Curaçao between 2024 and earlier this year, during which time he guided the nation to its first-ever qualification for a World Cup finals tournament. He stepped down from the position due to health concerns regarding his daughter, shortly after achieving the historic qualification. Curaçao has been drawn into Group E alongside Germany, Ivory Coast, and Ecuador, where they will be considered significant underdogs.
Notably, Fred Rutten will remain within the coaching staff despite the change in leadership. Advocaat’s appointment is seen as a stabilizing force ahead of a challenging World Cup campaign, leveraging his prior experience with the team and his extensive managerial background. His return offers continuity and familiarity as Curaçao prepares for its debut on the world stage. This move is expected to provide a boost to the team's morale and tactical preparation in the lead-up to the tournament.
