Bournemouth are exploring the possibility of re-signing Nathan Ake from Manchester City this summer, with City reportedly open to allowing the defender to leave the Etihad Stadium. The potential move comes as Bournemouth seek a left-sided central defender following indications that Marcos Senesi is nearing a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur.
Ake initially joined Bournemouth on loan from Chelsea before securing a permanent deal in 2017, establishing himself as a key player during a four-year spell on the south coast. His consistent performances earned him a £41million move to Manchester City in 2020, where he has since made over 170 appearances and contributed to numerous successes under Pep Guardiola.
However, with only one year remaining on his contract, Manchester City are now willing to consider offers for the 31-year-old as they begin to reshape their squad following Guardiola’s departure. Ake’s representatives are currently evaluating options across the Premier League and in Europe, with a return to Bournemouth considered appealing due to his prior connection with the club and the prospect of regular first-team football.
According to TEAMtalk, Manchester City are seeking a fee of around £20million for Ake, who is currently preparing for the European Championship with the Netherlands national team. Bournemouth face competition from several other Premier League clubs, including Everton, Leeds United, Crystal Palace, and newly promoted Coventry City, all of whom have expressed interest in the centre-back. Serie A side Roma, part of the same ownership group as Everton, are also monitoring the situation.
Bournemouth’s established relationship with Ake and their specific need for a left-footed centre-back could give them an advantage in securing his signature. The potential transfer is part of a wider defensive overhaul at Manchester City, with John Stones already confirmed to be leaving and the future of Ruben Dias also uncertain. The move could provide Ake with a consistent role and a familiar environment as he enters the next phase of his career.
