Liverpool have been encouraged to make a move for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha, with a reported price tag of €90m (£85.3m) being cited. Former Leicester City defender Robert Huth believes Nmecha would be the ideal signing for Liverpool under new manager Andoni Iraola, praising his ball-winning ability and suitability to a fast-flowing style of play.
Manchester United are also interested in the 23-year-old Germany international, having identified him as a potential addition to their midfield rebuild. United have already agreed deals for Ederson and Andrey Santos, and Nmecha is one of three remaining targets for the club, according to reports from INEOS.
Nmecha’s progress has been monitored by United for some time, and his willingness to return to the Premier League is seen as a positive. However, Liverpool’s interest has intensified following Nmecha’s performance at the recent World Cup, where he impressed despite Germany’s early exit.
Huth highlighted Nmecha’s statistical strengths, noting his high percentile ranking in ball recoveries and possession wins in the final third of the pitch in the Bundesliga last season. These attributes align well with Iraola’s tactical approach, which prioritizes high-energy pressing and quick transitions. Nmecha is described as more physical than current Liverpool midfielders Alexis Mac Allister and Curtis Jones, potentially addressing a need for greater robustness in the Reds’ midfield.
Whether Liverpool will meet Dortmund’s valuation remains to be seen, with reports suggesting a potential deal for another Premier League midfielder is also being considered. Inter Milan are also reportedly interested in Jones, which could create further space in Liverpool’s squad and budget for a move for Nmecha. The transfer saga is developing, and both clubs are weighing their options as the summer window progresses.
