Alain Giresse has been appointed as the national technical director of Gabon, the country’s football federation confirmed. Giresse’s role will see him oversee the technical aspects of football development within the nation.
This is not Giresse’s first involvement with Gabonese football; he previously managed the Gabon national team, known as the Panthères, between 2006 and 2010. During his previous tenure as head coach, he aimed to build a competitive squad capable of challenging on the African stage. The details of his new contract were not disclosed.
The appointment comes alongside the recent promotion of Sébastien Migné to the position of Gabon’s head coach. Migné’s appointment signals a fresh start for the national team following a period of uncertainty, including a recent suspension of the team. Giresse enjoyed a distinguished playing career, most notably with Bordeaux, where he scored 195 career goals.
