Manchester United have been presented with a potential opportunity to sign Aurelien Tchouameni this summer, as Real Madrid consider selling the French midfielder to fund other transfer targets, according to a report in Spanish outlet SPORT.
United are actively seeking to strengthen their midfield options, having already agreed a deal to bring Ederson from Atalanta to the club following the 2026 World Cup for a fee of €45 million. They have also been linked with West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes, but a €100 million deal has proven difficult to negotiate, particularly after a long-term injury to Manuel Ugarte and interest from Tottenham.
Tchouameni has long been identified as a key target for United, but Real Madrid had previously been unwilling to entertain offers for the 26-year-old, who joined the club from Monaco for €80 million in 2022. However, with Tchouameni entering the final two years of his contract and Madrid pursuing other midfield reinforcements, the club are now more open to a sale.
Madrid are particularly interested in signing Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea, but the Blues are reportedly demanding a fee of at least €140 million. To raise such a substantial amount, Madrid view Tchouameni’s sale as the most viable option, with his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently at €70.2 million. Other potential sales, such as Federico Valverde, are considered less likely, with Valverde expected to be a key player under Jose Mourinho next season.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has previously lauded Tchouameni as the “perfect defensive midfielder” for United, stating that he possesses “elite quality, top-level European experience and all the characteristics Man Utd are looking for.” While concerns were previously raised about the player’s potential wage demands, Ben Jacobs has suggested that this would not be a significant obstacle for the Red Devils.
The situation remains fluid and will depend on Madrid’s final asking price and the progress of United’s pursuit of Fernandes. However, it appears United will have a window of opportunity to secure the services of a player long admired by manager Michael Carrick.
