Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson is currently in discussions with Juventus regarding a potential transfer, according to transfer insider Ben Jacobs. The 33-year-old has one year remaining on his contract at Anfield and is considering his options, in a situation likened to that of Andy Robertson earlier in the year.
While reports from Italy have suggested Alisson has agreed to a three-year contract with Juventus worth €15 million, Jacobs indicates that a formal agreement with Liverpool has yet to be reached. However, Jacobs firmly believes that Giorgi Mamardashvili will be given the opportunity to establish himself as Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper should Alisson depart.
“Juventus are currently in talks with Alisson, and the Brazilian keeper is open to joining,” Jacobs explained on X. “However, Alisson is expected to approach any potential exit in the same manner as Andy Robertson in January. He has an excellent relationship with Liverpool and is not agitating to leave unless it suits all parties.”
Mamardashvili, 25, was signed from Valencia in 2024 for a fee of €30 million, with the understanding he would spend a season in Spain before joining Liverpool last summer. The club invested in him as Alisson’s long-term successor, and now appears ready to hand him the reins. He has made 19 appearances for Liverpool this season, keeping three clean sheets.
Despite the club’s confidence in Mamardashvili, data analysis from SciSports suggests he ranks only 14th among Premier League goalkeepers, though he is ahead of most other second-choice options. This may prompt Liverpool to revisit a shortlist of potential replacements drawn up earlier this year, which included PSG’s Lucas Chevalier and Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez.
Ultimately, if Alisson does leave Liverpool this summer, the club is prepared to give Mamardashvili a sustained run in the team, signaling a clear vote of confidence in the Georgian international’s ability to step up to the role.
