Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker is increasingly likely to join Juventus this summer, according to journalist David Lynch. The Brazilian shot-stopper, considered among Liverpool’s greatest ever goalkeepers alongside Ray Clemence and Bruce Grobbelaar, has one year remaining on his current contract.
Lynch reports that discussions between Alisson and Juventus suggest a willingness from both parties to complete a transfer. While Liverpool maintain a strong relationship with the player and will not force a departure, they are prepared to allow him to pursue a new challenge in Turin if his transfer demands are met. Alisson’s potential exit would represent a significant loss of experience and leadership following the departures of Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah.
Separately, Liverpool could secure the signing of right-back Lutsharel Geertruida for around £20 million. Geertruida is currently on loan at Sunderland from RB Leipzig, but is a player well-known to incoming manager Arne Slot from their time together at Feyenoord. According to insider Graeme Bailey, the player will not be returning to Sunderland when his loan expires, opening the door for a reunion with Slot at Anfield.
The potential acquisition of Geertruida addresses a problem area for Liverpool, with Jeremie Frimpong struggling to adapt and Conor Bradley facing a lengthy recovery from a knee injury. At a modest fee, Geertruida would not preclude further investment in other positions. However, Liverpool face competition from Leeds United, who believe they have an advantage in securing his signature.
Finally, owners Fenway Sports Group are reportedly so confident in Arne Slot’s ability to improve the team that they may forgo a planned end-of-season review to assess his position. FSG have identified mitigating factors for Liverpool’s disappointing season, including the tragic passing of Diogo Jota, Mohamed Salah’s loss of form, and the number of changes made to the starting eleven last summer. Slot will now be tasked with demonstrating that these were genuine factors and not simply excuses.
