Napoli are pursuing Massimiliano Allegri as their next manager, following the anticipated departure of Antonio Conte, according to reports in Italy. Club president Aurelio De Laurentiis has identified Allegri as the man to lead the club’s new project, despite a challenging season for the former Juventus and AC Milan coach.
Recent reports suggest that Gerry Cardinale, the owner of AC Milan, will decide in the coming days whether to relieve Allegri of his duties, but the manager is already considering offers, with Napoli emerging as a strong possibility. This interest is fueled by a pre-existing good relationship between Allegri and De Laurentiis, as well as a long-standing friendship with Napoli’s sporting director, Giovanni Manna.
Allegri’s position at Milan has been precarious in recent months, culminating in a defeat to Cagliari that likely signals the end of his tenure. He previously managed Juventus from 2014 to 2019, winning five Serie A titles, and also had a successful spell at Milan from 2007 to 2008, securing the Champions League trophy. His experience and track record make him an attractive candidate for Napoli, who are aiming to remain competitive at the top of Serie A and make a strong impact in the Champions League.
De Laurentiis reportedly considered Allegri last year as a potential replacement for Conte, and has now renewed his pursuit. Napoli already possess a competitive squad, and De Laurentiis intends to make further additions to strengthen the team. For Allegri, the move to Napoli represents a potential opportunity to rebuild his reputation after a difficult season and demonstrate his capabilities at another top Italian club. The alignment of both parties’ needs suggests the deal could progress quickly.
