Massimiliano Allegri has been officially announced as the new head coach of Napoli, the club confirmed through its social media channels. The appointment sees Allegri return to Naples, having briefly played for the club during the 1997-98 season, and take over from Antonio Conte, who departed at the end of the previous campaign.
Allegri has signed a three-year contract with Napoli, committing his future to the club until June 30, 2029. The move to Napoli marks a continuation of a recent trend for Allegri, who previously managed Milan for one season before returning to the southern Italian club. He led Milan to a fifth-place finish in Serie A last season.
Prior to his second spell at Milan, Allegri enjoyed a highly successful five-year tenure at Juventus, winning five consecutive Serie A titles, four Coppa Italia trophies, and two Supercoppe Italiane. He also guided Juventus to two Champions League finals during his time in Turin. His managerial career began in 2003, with notable early successes including promotion to Serie B with Sassuolo in 2008 and winning the Panchina d’Oro award for best Serie A coach while at Cagliari.
The appointment evokes parallels with the managerial handover at Juventus in 2014, where Allegri succeeded Conte and subsequently initiated a period of sustained dominance. Napoli supporters will hope for a similar outcome, with the club aiming to challenge Inter for the Serie A title after finishing second last season. The club’s statement welcomed Allegri, referencing his extensive experience and decorated career.
