Massimiliano Allegri is poised to leave AC Milan and take the managerial position at Napoli, according to reports emerging from Italy on Monday. Negotiations between Milan and Allegri’s representatives are underway to reach a mutual agreement to terminate his contract with the Rossoneri, paving the way for his move to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
The situation has developed rapidly following a turbulent season for Milan, which culminated in their exclusion from next season’s Champions League and Allegri’s subsequent dismissal. While the initial parting was fraught with tension, both parties now appear keen to resolve the situation amicably. A key sticking point in the negotiations is a reported €1 million difference between the compensation Milan is willing to pay Allegri and the salary he has been guaranteed by Napoli.
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has long been an admirer of Allegri, and has been actively pursuing the Italian manager for several years. De Laurentiis is eager to announce the appointment before departing for a trip to the United States. Allegri, for his part, is keen to finalize his departure from Milan to fully focus on his new role in Naples.
Milan club member Massimo Calvelli is leading the negotiations with Allegri’s agents, having been delegated the responsibility following the departure of former CEO Giorgio Furlani. The club hopes to swiftly reorganize following a period of instability. Napoli are prepared to offer Allegri a two-year contract worth €4.5 million per season, with additional bonuses, including a special bonus for winning the Serie A title. Discussions have already begun between the legal teams of both clubs to finalize the contract details, with an option for a third year in favor of Napoli also being considered. It is anticipated that a meeting between Allegri and Napoli’s sporting director Giovanni Manna will take place soon to discuss the current squad and potential transfer targets. Allegri is reportedly impressed with the existing Napoli roster and is considering implementing either a 3-5-2, 3-4-3, or potentially a 4-3-3 formation.
