AC Milan, under newly appointed manager Ruben Amorim, are reportedly interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall. The 20-year-old has informed Tottenham of his desire to leave the club in search of more consistent playing time, according to reports from Calciomercato.
Bergvall experienced a decline in game time towards the end of last season, starting only once in Roberto De Zerbi’s seven matches in charge. Despite previously being named Tottenham’s Player of the Season, he feels a move is necessary to secure regular minutes in the number eight role. A price tag of £45 million has been previously reported for the Swedish international.
Amorim, formerly linked with Manchester United, is familiar with Bergvall, having faced him twice while managing in European competition. Tottenham were victorious in both encounters. The new Milan manager appears keen to bring the midfielder to Italy, though Milan will face competition from several other clubs.
Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig have both expressed strong interest in Bergvall, while Italian rivals Inter and Napoli are also in the mix. Further interest comes from the Premier League, with Nottingham Forest, Chelsea, and Aston Villa all monitoring the situation. Forest are reportedly willing to guarantee Bergvall significant playing time, a key factor in his decision-making process.
Milan may be able to offer Bergvall the playing time he desires, as none of their current midfield options are currently valued as highly as the Tottenham player. The potential move could provide Bergvall with a fresh start and a prominent role in a new league, while offering Amorim a player he clearly admires.
