Anderlecht’s newly appointed manager, Vitor Bruno, has publicly expressed his interest in signing Romelu Lukaku from Napoli, according to reports from Bruno Stampa. During his introductory press conference, Bruno responded to questions regarding the possibility of bringing the Belgian international to Brussels.
Bruno acknowledged the speculation linking Lukaku with a move to the Belgian Pro League side, stating, “If it’s possible for him to return this summer? Put pressure on Antoine (Sibierski), not me!” He further indicated satisfaction with his current attacking options – Cvetkovic, Sikan, Terry Van De Ven, and Bertaccini – but playfully offered to contact Lukaku directly if provided with his phone number.
Lukaku currently plays for Napoli, having joined the Italian club last season. His time in Naples has been marked by inconsistent form and injury concerns, leading to speculation about his future. Prior to joining Napoli, the striker had spells at Inter Milan, Manchester United, and Everton, establishing himself as a prolific goalscorer in the Premier League and Serie A.
Bruno emphasized that any potential arrival would not be met with preferential treatment, adding, “If he comes here, he will have to work hard too.” This statement suggests a commitment to maintaining a strong work ethic within the squad, regardless of a player’s reputation. The coach highlighted Lukaku’s impact in his recent appearance for the Belgian national team as evidence of his capabilities, but stressed the importance of commitment from any new signing.
The transfer could offer Lukaku an opportunity to reignite his career in a familiar league, having started his professional journey with Anderlecht’s youth academy. For Anderlecht, acquiring a player of Lukaku’s caliber would represent a significant coup, potentially elevating the club’s profile and competitiveness both domestically and in European competitions.
