Andrea Sottil, father of Fiorentina winger Riccardo Sottil, has indicated his son is likely to leave the club this summer in search of regular first-team football. Speaking to Radio Bruno, Andrea Sottil acknowledged his son has been deemed surplus to requirements at the Stadio Artemio Franchi and suggested a move is the most probable outcome.
The situation stems from a recent hernia injury that kept Riccardo Sottil sidelined for two months, impacting his position within the squad. While now recovered and training, the 24-year-old was not included in Fiorentina’s pre-season retreat, a clear signal of the club’s intentions. Andrea Sottil stated that while his son still has one year remaining on his contract, a permanent transfer would be in his best interest.
Andrea Sottil was quick to praise Fiorentina’s sporting director, Fabio Paratici, highlighting his high regard for the executive’s work and suggesting it explains the club’s recent transfer activity. He acknowledged the club’s right to make decisions regarding the squad, while also emphasizing Riccardo’s right to find a team where he can play consistently. Riccardo Sottil has featured sporadically for Fiorentina since joining from Atalanta in 2019, often struggling with injuries and competition for places.
Riccardo Sottil primarily operates as a right winger, known for his pace and dribbling ability, though he can also play on the left. He has made 66 appearances for Fiorentina across all competitions, scoring 7 goals. His development has been hampered by fitness issues, preventing him from establishing himself as a key player. A move away from Florence could provide the platform for him to rediscover his form and gain consistent playing time. The club has yet to confirm any potential suitors, but a return to a club where he can feature regularly is now the priority.
