Álvaro Arbeloa has confirmed that his current spell as manager of Real Madrid will conclude following their final La Liga match of the season. The Spaniard revealed his departure during a press conference, stating it is “clear that this will be my last match as coach of Real Madrid.” Arbeloa had been serving as interim manager for four months.
Arbeloa’s time in charge has been described as challenging, though he intends to finish strongly in his final match at the Santiago Bernabéu. Despite the imminent end to his managerial role, Arbeloa expressed a desire to return to the club in the future, emphasizing his deep connection to Real Madrid. “I have been part of Real Madrid for 20 years… and I will always consider it my home,” he said.
The former Real Madrid defender refrained from offering advice to incoming manager José Mourinho, acknowledging the Portuguese coach's extensive experience. Mourinho’s return to the club is widely anticipated, and he will now take full responsibility for the team’s direction.
Arbeloa enjoyed a distinguished playing career with Real Madrid, making over 230 appearances across two spells. He won numerous titles with the club, including La Liga titles and Champions League crowns. He transitioned into coaching after retiring as a player, and while his interim period as manager has been brief, he leaves with a continued affection for the institution. This move marks another change in leadership for the Spanish giants, as they prepare for a new era under Mourinho.
