Arsenal made contact with Real Sociedad centre-back Jon Martin regarding a potential transfer, but the 20-year-old has signed a new long-term contract with his current club, according to reports in Spain.

Martin emerged as a potential target due to his Basque heritage, which aligns with the growing presence of players and staff from the region at Arsenal. Manager Mikel Arteta, along with Mikel Merino, also hail from the Basque Country, creating a potential cultural fit. However, Martin has committed his future to Real Sociedad, signing a deal that extends until 2032.

Arsenal previously signed Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad for a similar fee, albeit with adjusted payment terms.
