Arsenal supporters are calling for the club to reconsider a potential summer sale of midfielder Myles Lewis-Skelly following his impressive performances, most recently in the Gunners’ 1-0 victory over Atletico Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final on Tuesday.
Arsenal advanced to the final 2-1 on aggregate, reaching their first Champions League final in two decades, and Lewis-Skelly played a key role, earning a starting position over Martin Zubimendi for the match at the Emirates Stadium. The 19-year-old followed up a strong Premier League showing against Fulham with another composed display against Diego Simeone’s side, completing 90 percent of his passes and winning all of his aerial duels before being substituted in the 74th minute.
Lewis-Skelly emerged through Arsenal’s academy, having a breakout season in 2024-25 where he made 39 appearances across all competitions, notably performing well in a Champions League win at Real Madrid. However, his playing time has been limited this season with Riccardo Calafiori and Piero Hincapie established as the first-choice left-backs.
According to a report from BBC Sport last month, Arsenal were prepared to listen to offers for the England international due to these limited opportunities. However, recent performances have prompted a strong reaction from fans on social media, with many pleading with manager Mikel Arteta and the club’s hierarchy to retain Lewis-Skelly. Supporters expressed concerns about repeating past situations where promising young players, such as Emi Martinez and Bernd Leno, were sold prematurely.
Lewis-Skelly sustained a knock late in the match against Atletico, being replaced by Zubimendi, and his fitness will be assessed ahead of Sunday’s crucial Premier League fixture against West Ham United. Arsenal currently lead the Premier League title race by five points, though Manchester City have a game in hand. The club’s success in both competitions hinges on maintaining a strong squad, and the supporters believe Lewis-Skelly is a valuable asset who deserves a fair chance to contribute.
