Arsenal are currently engaged in negotiations with Hamburg regarding a permanent transfer for Fábio Vieira, following a successful loan spell with the Bundesliga club. The 25-year-old midfielder joined Hamburg on a temporary deal in September and made a significant impact, scoring seven goals and providing six assists in 31 appearances across all competitions as Hamburg finished 13th in the Bundesliga.
A pre-existing option-to-buy clause of €22 million exists within Vieira’s loan agreement, but Hamburg are seeking to negotiate a lower fee with Arsenal, citing financial limitations. Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reported that Hamburg are “doing everything behind the scenes” to retain Vieira, and have already communicated their desire to build the team around him.
Vieira has publicly expressed his willingness to remain with Hamburg, stating he was “very happy” with the club and “grateful” for the support he received. He emphasized the strong connection he feels with the fans and the club’s staff. However, his return hinges on Arsenal agreeing to a reduced transfer fee.
Hamburg are reportedly aiming to secure Vieira for approximately €10 million this summer, a figure below his current Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of over €16 million. Arsenal have already sanctioned the departures of Jakub Kiwior to Porto and Karl Hein to Werder Bremen, and a deal with Hamburg would make Vieira the third player to leave the Emirates Stadium this transfer window. Vieira originally joined Arsenal from FC Porto in 2022, but struggled to consistently establish himself in the first team before his loan move.
