Arsenal are continuing to pursue Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez this summer, though the player’s preference remains a move to Barcelona, according to TEAMtalk. Atletico Madrid have indicated they are willing to allow Alvarez to depart, but are keen to avoid strengthening direct rivals Real Madrid or Barcelona with his signature.
Arsenal’s sporting director Andrea Berta has held direct discussions with Alvarez, and the player is reportedly open to a move to the Premier League, which encourages the Gunners in their pursuit. However, sources close to Alvarez’s camp consistently state that Barcelona is his desired destination, despite growing uncertainty surrounding the Catalan club’s ability to finance the deal.
Paris Saint-Germain have also entered the race, with manager Luis Enrique personally speaking to Alvarez as they seek a replacement for Goncalo Ramos, who is set to join AC Milan. PSG are also exploring other centre-forward options, and the future of Bradley Barcola is not directly linked to Alvarez’s situation despite speculation in France.
Real Madrid made an unsuccessful attempt to sign Alvarez earlier in the summer, but the Argentinian international showed no interest in joining their squad. This has reinforced Atletico Madrid’s preference for a sale to Arsenal, should Alvarez ultimately decide to leave the club. Barcelona have currently offered over €100million for Alvarez, but club president Joan Laporta has indicated that the offer has a time limit.
Alongside their interest in Alvarez, Arsenal are also prioritizing strengthening the left side of their attack, with Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers as their primary target. They are also monitoring Barcola’s situation at PSG, but a deal is not yet certain. The situation remains fluid, with Arsenal poised to capitalize should Alvarez’s move to Barcelona fall through.
