Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott for a fee of £60 million, according to transfer insider David Ornstein. The potential move comes amid Manchester City’s agreement to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest for a British record fee of £116 million.
Former Tottenham striker Darren Bent believes Arsenal could secure a significantly better deal with Scott than City are getting with Anderson, stating that Scott is “not £40 million worse” than the Forest midfielder. Bent highlighted the inflated nature of the Anderson transfer, suggesting Arsenal could bolster other areas of their squad with the savings.
Scott, 22, enjoyed a breakthrough season with Bournemouth, establishing himself as a key player in their midfield. He has also earned international recognition with the England national team. His performances have attracted attention from several top clubs, including Manchester United, who have also reportedly enquired about his availability.
The Gunners are potentially looking to strengthen their midfield options following a title challenge that ultimately fell short last season. While they have existing options in Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi, and Myles Lewis-Skelly, Bent suggests Scott could still find significant playing time at the Emirates Stadium. He believes Scott’s arrival would provide valuable depth and competition for places.
Arsenal are also reportedly pursuing other midfield targets, including Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes, with an initial offer having been rejected. However, the club is expected to return with an improved bid. The pursuit of Scott alongside Guimaraes indicates Arsenal’s intent to significantly upgrade their midfield ahead of next season. Securing Scott would represent a shrewd piece of business for the North London club, potentially allowing them to address other areas of the squad with the remaining funds.
