Arsenal continue to monitor the situation surrounding Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez and are prepared to act quickly should the player indicate a willingness to move, according to TEAMtalk. Reports in Spain had suggested a potential agreement worth €150m (£130m, $174m) involving a swap deal with Viktor Gyokeres going to Atletico, however, sources have downplayed these claims, stating no such deal is currently in place.
Arsenal have long been admirers of the Argentina international and maintain open communication with both Atletico Madrid and Alvarez’s representatives. The Gunners are ready to pursue a deal if circumstances change, but the player’s preference remains the primary obstacle. Alvarez’s long-held ambition is reportedly a move to Barcelona, a stance that has not altered despite interest from other clubs, including a recent approach from Real Madrid.
Arsenal have been assured they will be kept informed should Alvarez reconsider his preference for a move to Barcelona. Sporting director Andrea Berta and manager Mikel Arteta both believe Alvarez could significantly strengthen Arsenal’s attack and improve their chances of competing for major honours. Discussions between the clubs have included potential player exchanges, with Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus, and Leandro Trossard all mentioned as possible candidates to move to Atletico.
Atletico Madrid are also believed to be interested in Viktor Gyokeres, but Arsenal are currently reluctant to include the Swedish striker in any negotiations. Both Arteta and Berta are reportedly highly impressed with Gyokeres and see significant potential for his future development at the Emirates Stadium. Paris Saint-Germain are also monitoring Alvarez’s situation, but for now, Barcelona remains his preferred destination. Arsenal are well-positioned to capitalise should Alvarez’s pursuit of a move to Barcelona prove unsuccessful, having already laid the groundwork for a potential deal.
