Arsenal are reportedly considering a summer move for Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez, according to reports from The Express. The potential transfer comes after Arsenal secured their first Premier League title in 22 years, prompting manager Mikel Arteta to be granted a significant transfer budget.
City’s 1-1 draw with Bournemouth on Tuesday confirmed Arsenal as champions, ending a long wait for Premier League glory. The club is now looking ahead to a Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain on May 30, with the possibility of completing a historic double.
Last summer saw Arsenal invest over £250 million in new players, and Arteta is expected to receive further backing to strengthen the squad. The club is planning to add a centre-forward, left winger, central midfielder, and centre-back during the upcoming transfer window. Alvarez is identified as a key target in the forward position, with sporting director Andrea Berta said to be particularly keen on the Argentine international.
Arsenal could attempt a swap deal to secure Alvarez, though a straight cash offer would likely exceed €120 million (£104 million). The interest in Alvarez comes despite Arsenal’s recent £64 million investment in Viktor Gyokeres. Other potential targets for the left wing include Rafael Leao, Anthony Gordon, and Bradley Barcola, while Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is considered a dream signing, though difficult to acquire from PSG.
In midfield, Arsenal are evaluating Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali, though they face competition from Manchester United for Fernandes. Centre-back options include Castello Lukeba, Jacobo Ramon, and Victor Valdepenas, with Lukeba appearing the most attainable. To finance these additions, Arsenal are expected to sell players such as Gabriel Jesus, Martinelli and Ethan Nwaneri.
