Arsenal have been offered the opportunity to sign Rafael Leao, the AC Milan winger also a long-term target for Manchester United, according to reports in Italy. Gazzetta dello Sport, via Football Italia, claim that Leao has been ‘offered’ to the Gunners in recent weeks, though negotiations are not currently advanced.
This development comes as Leao himself has indicated his desire to leave Milan this summer, stating to Sport TV Portugal that he is “proud” of his time with the club but “want[s] a new chapter” and feels “ready to play in another league.” The 26-year-old also revealed a past affinity for both United and Arsenal, admitting he “like[d] United because my idol is Cristiano Ronaldo” and also “like[d] Arsenal.”
Manchester United are reportedly seeking to bolster their attacking options with a new left-winger this summer, alongside targets at left-back and in midfield. Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that a top winger is a “priority” for Arsenal as they plan for at least three summer signings. While United have shown genuine interest in Leao, they have not yet made a formal move, having been alerted to the possibility of a transfer.
AC Milan are reportedly willing to sell Leao for a fee of around €50 million (£43.1m / $58.7m), a valuation that has attracted attention from clubs across Europe. Galatasaray have also submitted an offer, however, it is understood that the Portuguese international is seeking a move to the Premier League. Transfer expert Graeme Bailey has confirmed Milan’s willingness to sell at that price point, and that United have been approached.
Leao has been a key player for AC Milan since joining from Lille in 2019, contributing significantly to their Serie A title win in 2022. He has scored 31 goals in 155 appearances for the club. A move to either Arsenal or Manchester United would represent a significant step up in competition and potentially a substantial increase in wages. The competition for his signature is expected to intensify as the transfer window progresses, potentially forcing both clubs to act quickly to secure his services.
