Arsenal are intensifying their pursuit of Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, according to reports, following their unsuccessful attempt to sign Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa. The Gunners saw bids of £55m and £65m, the latter submitted through intermediaries, rejected for Guimaraes, but are preparing another offer.
Arsenal were unwilling to exceed a bid of £80m for Rogers, falling short of Aston Villa’s valuation and ultimately losing out to Chelsea, who paid £117m for the England international. Despite this setback, journalist Ben Jacobs reports on X that Arsenal are set for a busy period of transfer activity, with Guimaraes a key target.
Newcastle are reportedly seeking between £90m and £100m for Guimaraes, though some reports suggest a fee of £75m could be a compromise. Fabrizio Romano has indicated that £90m is the figure Newcastle are aiming for. Sources close to the player suggest Guimaraes is keen on a move to the Emirates Stadium, believing this is his best opportunity to join a club competing at the highest level. At 28 years old, Guimaraes and his representatives feel time is running out for a transfer to a major European power.
Alongside the pursuit of Guimaraes, Arsenal are also exploring a deal for Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams, who has a release clause of €90m / £77m in his contract. Arsenal director Andrea Berta has reportedly made fresh contact regarding a potential swoop for Williams, with the player now appearing more open to a move to England than previously. Alternative winger options, including PSG’s Bradley Barcola and RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, remain under consideration. A successful acquisition of either Guimaraes or Williams would significantly bolster Arsenal’s squad ahead of the new season, strengthening their midfield and attacking options.
