Arsenal’s attempts to sign Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid have been unsuccessful, with the Argentina international making clear his preference for a move to Barcelona, according to Fabrizio Romano. Alvarez publicly stated his desire to leave Atletico on Monday, and quickly informed both Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain that his priority is a transfer to the Catalan club.
Romano explained that Alvarez directly communicated his wishes to both clubs, declining their approaches. Arsenal enquired with both Atletico Madrid and Alvarez’s representatives to gauge the possibility of a deal, but received a firm indication that the player is solely focused on joining Barcelona. The forward has established himself as a key player for Atletico, scoring 16 goals in La Liga last season.
Meanwhile, Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott is expected to cost around €70 million should he become available this summer, the Daily Mail reports. Arsenal are among a number of Premier League clubs to have expressed interest in the 22-year-old as they seek to strengthen their midfield options. Bournemouth are reportedly keen to retain Scott and are considering offering him a new contract.
However, the club acknowledge they may be compelled to sell if a suitable offer arrives, with a fee of €70 million potentially proving too tempting to resist. The Cherries are planning to include a release clause exceeding €80 million in any potential new contract for Scott, indicating their valuation of the player. Scott enjoyed a breakthrough season for Bournemouth, becoming a regular starter and earning his first England cap.
In further transfer news, Arsenal have received a boost in their pursuit of Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, with The Athletic reporting that Real Madrid are not currently prioritising a move for the 18-year-old. The Gunners have been in contact with Bouaddi’s representatives since January 2025 and are considered frontrunners for his signature, though they face competition from Chelsea, Liverpool and PSG. Bouaddi has emerged as a promising talent in Ligue 1, showcasing his versatility and technical ability.
