Arsenal have formally expressed their interest in signing FC Porto midfielder Victor Froholdt during the upcoming summer transfer window, according to The Times. The Gunners are seeking to strengthen Mikel Arteta’s squad and have identified the 20-year-old as a potential target.
Arsenal spent close to €300 million on new players last summer, with only €10 million recouped through sales, and remain ambitious in the transfer market. The club is reportedly prioritizing the recruitment of a full-back, a central midfielder, and a left winger, with players from Newcastle United – Valentino Livramento, Sandro Tonali, and Anthony Gordon – among those under consideration.
Froholdt has impressed during his debut season with Porto, joining the club from FC Copenhagen last July. He has contributed eight goals and six assists in 50 appearances across all competitions, attracting attention from several European clubs. Liverpool and Newcastle United have also been linked with a move for the Denmark international.
Porto currently value Froholdt at €85 million due to a release clause in his contract, which runs until 2030. However, the Portuguese club are reportedly open to offers of around €60 million to improve their financial position. To facilitate a deal, Arsenal may need to generate funds through player sales, with the futures of Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli, Ben White, and Christian Norgaard all subject to speculation.
Former Denmark forward Mikkel Beckmann recently praised Froholdt’s energetic style of play, describing him as “like a Duracell Bunny” and highlighting his relentless work rate and goal-scoring ability. Beckmann noted the significant pressure Froholdt applies to opposing players and his current excellent form.
Myles Lewis-Skelly’s recent performances for Arsenal may also influence the club’s decision regarding potential outgoings, potentially leading to a reassessment of his availability for transfer.
