Arsenal are increasingly confident that Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers will favour a move to the Emirates Stadium this summer, potentially setting a new club transfer record, while sporting director Andrea Berta is evaluating seven midfield options according to reports. The Gunners, fresh off a Premier League title win, are looking to further strengthen their squad despite reaching the Champions League and Carabao Cup finals.
Arsenal’s pursuit of Rogers has gained momentum, with TEAMtalk reporting on May 28th that the club is prepared to exceed £100 million to secure his signature. Sources, including BBC Sport’s Sami Mokbel, indicate Rogers is seeking a departure from Villa Park to advance his career, and HandofArsenal claims the player has expressed a preference for joining Arteta’s project. While no formal contact has been made with Aston Villa, the move reportedly has “full buy-in” within Arsenal, despite interest from Chelsea and Manchester United.
Rogers joined Aston Villa from Middlesbrough in January 2024 and quickly established himself as a key player under Unai Emery, contributing significantly with goals and assists. His versatility as a winger and forward makes him an attractive option for Arteta, who is looking to add depth and quality to his attacking options.
Alongside the pursuit of Rogers, Berta is assessing seven midfielders to provide cover and competition for Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi, and Myles Lewis-Skelly. Sandro Tonali, previously a target in January, is again on the radar, though Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly advancing towards a club-record deal for the Newcastle United player. Lille’s Ayyoub Bouaddi is also a key target, but securing his signature will require a substantial fee. Other midfielders under consideration include Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, Roma’s Manu Kone, and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Larsson, along with two unnamed targets.
Arsenal are also expected to announce several contract extensions in the coming weeks, signalling a commitment to their current core of players. These moves, combined with potential new signings, suggest the club is aiming for sustained success and dominance in the Premier League.
