Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are both monitoring the situation of Roma right-back Wesley, with his future potentially hinging on the pursuit of Tino Livramento, according to a report from Calciomercato. Wesley joined Roma last summer from Flamengo for a fee of €30 million (£26m) and has quickly established himself as a key player for the Serie A side.
The Brazilian international has made 37 appearances for Roma across all competitions this season, contributing with five goals and two assists. Originally a right-back for Flamengo, Wesley has demonstrated versatility in Italy, excelling as a wing-back on either flank. His performances have reportedly seen his transfer value more than double to over €60 million (£52m).
Several other European clubs are also said to be interested in Wesley, including Juventus, Manchester City, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Newcastle United. Juventus reportedly regret not signing him prior to his move to Roma. However, the report suggests that Arsenal’s pursuit of Wesley may be directly linked to their success in signing Newcastle United’s Tino Livramento.
If Arsenal fail to secure a deal for Livramento, they are expected to intensify their interest in Wesley. Arsenal have already identified Wesley as a potential replacement for Ben White, with the club reportedly sanctioning White’s departure. The 22-year-old is among a shortlist of five right-backs being considered by manager Mikel Arteta. Sources indicated in January that both Manchester City and Tottenham were presented with the opportunity to sign Wesley as Roma look to raise funds for attacking reinforcements.
This interest in Wesley comes as Arsenal continue to assess other potential targets, including Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe and players from Manchester City, demonstrating an active approach to strengthening their squad during the summer transfer window.
