Arsenal are reportedly considering the sale of midfielder Martin Odegaard this summer, a move that would have been considered unlikely until recently. According to BBC journalist Sami Mokbel, there has been “some noise” around the possibility of the club allowing Odegaard to leave for the “right price”.
The Gunners have already begun their summer transfer activity by making Piero Hincapie’s loan deal permanent, following his successful campaign. They have also secured the signing of Jeremy Monga from Leicester City, as sporting director Andrea Berta focuses on both immediate needs and future planning. However, with the potential arrival of Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers and the presence of Eberechi Eze, Odegaard’s future at the Emirates has become a subject of speculation.
Odegaard, currently with Norway at the World Cup, experienced an injury-disrupted 2025/26 season where he wasn’t always a guaranteed starter under Mikel Arteta. Despite this, the 27-year-old has contributed 88 goals and assists in 234 appearances for Arsenal since joining from Real Madrid in 2021. However, his influence on the team was less pronounced during their recent Premier League title-winning season, scoring only once and providing eight assists in 36 games across all competitions.
Arsenal legend Paul Merson recently suggested that the club might consider selling their captain, stating that teams would be “queuing round the block” for a player like Odegaard, particularly given the need for pace in attacking areas. While intermediaries have reportedly sounded out potential interest from Italian clubs like Inter Milan and Juventus, sources close to both the player and the club maintain that Odegaard is keen to extend his contract beyond 2028 and has the full support of Arteta. Berta is believed to be managing the situation.
