Arsenal have expressed interest in signing Chelsea defender Josh Acheampong this summer, though Chelsea are currently resisting offers for the England U21 international. The news comes as the transfer window approaches, with several Premier League clubs monitoring Acheampong’s situation at Stamford Bridge.
Acheampong, 20, made 30 senior appearances for Chelsea during the 2025-26 season but struggled to secure a consistent place in the starting lineup. Former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca previously described him as a “fantastic player.” Despite his limited playing time, Chelsea currently consider him an “untouchable” asset, alongside Cole Palmer, Moises Caicedo, and Levi Colwill, according to reports.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Chelsea have already rejected multiple bids for Acheampong, a claim corroborated by BBC Sport’s Nizaar Kinsella. Beyond Arsenal, Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Newcastle United, and Manchester United have also been linked with a move for the young defender. Arsenal’s interest stems from their need for a new full-back, potentially as a replacement for Ben White, following their defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final.
Acheampong is expected to seek assurances regarding playing time ahead of next season, having become frustrated with his limited opportunities in the previous campaign. While reports suggest Chelsea are determined to retain him, the club has previously adopted a similar stance in both 2024 and 2025, only for Acheampong’s game time to remain limited. He has started just 10 Premier League matches to date.
Despite the external interest, Chelsea appear firm in their resolve not to sanction a permanent sale during the current transfer window. Acheampong’s Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently stands at €29.5 million, a career high, reflecting his potential and increasing market value. Since making his debut under Mauricio Pochettino, he has accumulated 44 first-team appearances for the Blues. This suggests that, for now, Acheampong will remain at Chelsea and compete for a role under their new manager, Alonso.
