Arsenal are poised to offer manager Mikel Arteta a new contract that will make him the highest-paid head coach in the Premier League, according to TEAMtalk. Talks regarding the extension have reportedly progressed significantly in recent weeks, with a strong expectation of an agreement being finalized before the start of the upcoming season.
The club’s owners, the Kroenke family, are fully supportive of the plans to reward the 42-year-old for the substantial progress achieved under his leadership. Arteta’s current deal has one year remaining and is valued at approximately £10 million per season, but the proposed new agreement is expected to nearly double that figure, bringing him close to the previous Premier League high of around £20 million per year earned by Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
This would translate to a weekly salary of approximately £384,000. While Guardiola remains the highest-paid manager until his departure from City on July 1st, Arteta is expected to surpass him as the top earner in England, solidifying his position among the elite coaches globally. Chelsea’s new manager, Xabi Alonso, currently earns a similar salary to Arteta’s existing terms, but Arsenal’s offer is set to change that dynamic.
Arsenal’s decision reflects the remarkable transformation Arteta has overseen since taking charge in December 2019. He inherited a team lacking direction and has since built them into a genuine contender both domestically and in Europe. Last season, the Gunners ended a 22-year wait for a Premier League title and narrowly missed out on their first Champions League trophy after a penalty shootout defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.
Sources indicate that there was never internal concern about reaching an agreement, with both parties aligned on the long-term vision for the club. The new contract is intended to acknowledge not only past achievements but also Arsenal’s confidence in Arteta’s ability to lead them to further success. The club continues to invest in the squad, working alongside sporting director Andrea Berta to identify key targets, with Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers reportedly a potential addition to the attack. Securing Arteta’s future is considered a crucial piece of business for Arsenal as they aim to maintain their momentum.
