Juventus midfielders Arthur and forward Arkadiusz Milik are both facing continued uncertainty regarding their futures with the club, despite having one year remaining on their contracts. Both players have struggled with injury issues and a lack of consistent playing time, leading to concerns they may remain peripheral figures for the upcoming season.
Arthur arrived at Juventus in 2020 as part of a swap deal with Barcelona involving Miralem Pjanic, valued at €72 million plus €10 million in bonuses. However, the Brazilian has only spent two seasons in Turin during his six-year contract, having been loaned out to Liverpool, Fiorentina, Girona, and Gremio, only to be returned to Juventus each time. The club has extended his contract twice to spread the cost of his wages, leaving a residual cost of €6.5 million and a gross salary of approximately €5 million. While his recent spell in Brazil showed promise, Arthur continued to be hampered by muscular injuries, limiting his playing time from January onwards.
Arkadiusz Milik’s situation is similarly complicated, with persistent muscular and joint problems impacting his availability. The Polish international has openly discussed the mental toll these injuries have taken on him, describing periods of deep emotional difficulty. He expressed feeling disconnected from the team during his recovery periods, struggling with the lack of adrenaline and excitement. Despite his desire to continue playing, Milik has made only two appearances in the last two seasons, against Sassuolo and Genoa, following a contract extension to 2027.
According to reports, both players’ continued presence represents a potential obstacle to Juventus’s transfer activity. The club may struggle to bring in new players while retaining players with high salaries who are not contributing on the pitch. With coach Massimiliano Spalletti taking the reins, both Arthur and Milik face an uphill battle to prove their worth and earn a place in the squad.
