Brazilian midfielder Arthur is returning to Juventus after Gremio announced they were unable to reach an economic agreement to secure his permanent transfer. The 27-year-old’s loan spell with the Brazilian club, which began in August of last year, will conclude on June 30th, 2026, with Arthur now set to return to Italy.
Arthur initially joined Juventus from Barcelona in June 2020 as part of a deal that saw Miralem Pjanic move in the opposite direction. However, he has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter in Turin, making a total of 63 appearances for the club and contributing one goal and one assist. Since arriving at Juventus, the player has been loaned out to Liverpool, Fiorentina, and Girona, indicating a lack of consistent opportunities within the first team.
Despite expressing a desire to remain at Gremio, where he previously played between 2010 and 2018, Arthur and the club could not agree on financial terms. Gremio confirmed they made a formal proposal for a new contract, but it was ultimately unsuccessful, thanking the player for his contributions during his time with the club. Initial reports suggested a potential four-year deal might be possible, with a fee in the region of €8-10 million, but Juventus apparently held firm on their valuation.
Arthur is currently contracted to Juventus until June 30th, 2027. He will now return to Italy and meet with the club’s new CEO, Giovanni Carnevali, to discuss his future. While Serie A clubs could emerge as potential suitors, a return to Brazil or a move to Turkey have not been ruled out, with several clubs potentially interested in acquiring the former Barcelona player. The situation remains fluid as Juventus explores all available options for the midfielder.
