Roma attacker Matias Soulé is attracting interest from Aston Villa following their Europa League triumph, according to reports in Italy. The Argentine winger could feature in his final match for the club this weekend against Verona, where Roma are seeking to secure Champions League qualification.
Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini is expected to field a strong attacking trio against Verona, featuring Donyell Malen as the central striker, supported by Soulé and Paulo Dybala. The partnership between Dybala and Malen has proven fruitful, with two of Dybala’s four assists this season leading to goals for the Dutch forward against Torino and Parma. The duo’s developing connection is seen as a positive sign for the future.
Soulé has been a regular in the Roma squad, but his future remains uncertain with Villa’s interest. He has not scored since the second matchday of the return fixture against Sassuolo and will be looking to end the season on a high note. Meanwhile, Malen’s impressive form since joining in January – 13 league goals – has seen him close in on becoming one of the highest-scoring Dutch players in Serie A history, potentially surpassing Ruud Gullit’s tally of 15 goals in a single season.
Malen’s move to Roma will become permanent at the end of the season, triggering a €25 million transfer with a contract extending to 2030. The club have already exercised the option to buy, solidifying his position as a key player. Since his arrival, Malen has significantly boosted Roma’s attacking output, increasing their goals per game ratio from 1.2 to 1.94, a performance level comparable to Gasperini’s successful tenure at Atalanta. The Verona match provides an opportunity for all three attackers – Soulé, Dybala, and Malen – to showcase their abilities, with Soulé potentially impressing potential suitors and Dybala hoping to earn a contract renewal.
