Aston Villa have submitted an official bid for Chelsea winger Alejandro Garnacho, according to Fabrizio Romano. The offer currently consists of an initial loan with an option for a permanent transfer.
Garnacho arrived at Stamford Bridge last year in a €46.2 million deal from Manchester United, but has quickly become surplus to requirements at the club. Chelsea pursued the 22-year-old throughout the previous transfer window, but he failed to make a significant impact in West London.
The Argentine’s career has stalled in recent years, mirroring the situation of fellow former Manchester United player Jadon Sancho. Both players have represented both United and Chelsea, with Sancho also having a spell at Aston Villa last season, potentially paving the way for Garnacho to follow suit.
Aston Villa are actively strengthening their squad in preparation for their return to the Champions League. Manager Unai Emery and sporting director Roberto Olabe are prioritizing significant additions, particularly following several departures and a key injury. Morgan Rogers has moved to Chelsea, Youri Tielemans joined Manchester United, Luca Digne is set to sign for Paris Saint-Germain, and Ollie Watkins is attracting interest from Fenerbahce. Amadou Onana is also facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to an ACL injury sustained at the World Cup.
Villa have already invested €100 million in Johan Manzambi and Joao Gomes, and the €138 million received from Rogers’ transfer provides them with considerable financial flexibility. Garnacho’s name was reportedly raised during discussions with Chelsea regarding Rogers, and a potential agreement involving multiple players could be in the works, similar to a previous arrangement in 2024 where Omari Kellyman and Ian Maatsen were exchanged to address Profitability and Sustainability Rules.
Chelsea have also been in talks with Villa regarding Nicolas Jackson, potentially as a replacement should Watkins depart. However, Jackson is reportedly keen to remain at Chelsea despite the club’s abundance of striking options. While Chelsea have not yet accepted Villa’s initial bid for Garnacho, negotiations are ongoing, with Villa also discussing personal terms with the player.
AS Roma also expressed interest in Garnacho, but appear to have shifted their focus to West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville, having already submitted three bids. It appears increasingly likely that Garnacho will continue his career in the Premier League, but not with Chelsea.
