Aston Villa poised to make Douglas Luiz loan permanent for €25m
Aston Villa are in talks with Juventus to sign midfielder Douglas Luiz on a permanent deal this summer, with a fee of around €25 million under discussion. The Brazilian is currently on loan at Villa Park from the Serie A club, and the Premier League side holds a purchase option as part of that arrangement.
According to Italian reports, Juventus are eager to conclude the sale before 30 June for accounting purposes, as the player's book value will stand at €25 million at the end of the season. The Bianconeri are therefore unwilling to accept an offer below that figure to avoid registering a capital loss on their financial statements. Aston Villa are understood to be willing to meet that valuation.
The move would see Luiz return to the club that sold him to Juventus for €50 million in the summer of 2024. His time in Turin was considered a major disappointment, and an initial loan spell at Nottingham Forest this season failed to reignite his form. Since joining Aston Villa on loan in January, however, the 26-year-old has regained fitness and playing time, convincing the club's hierarchy to trigger the buy clause.
For Juventus, the €25 million revenue is seen as crucial for balancing the books and funding their own transfer market plans. For Aston Villa, securing a familiar midfielder at half the price they received for him less than a year ago represents a pragmatic piece of business. The clubs are hopeful of finalizing the agreement before the current campaign concludes.
