Aston Villa have completed the signing of Alejandro Garnacho on loan from Chelsea, the club announced on Thursday. The deal includes an option to buy, which could become an obligation depending on certain performance-related conditions. According to Birmingham Live, the option to make the transfer permanent is valued at €50 million and will be triggered should Garnacho feature in a specified number of matches for Villa – reportedly 22 games.
Should Aston Villa activate the purchase option, Garnacho is expected to sign a four-year contract with the club. The 22-year-old Argentinian international has eight senior caps for his country and will bolster Villa’s attacking options.
Garnacho began his professional career at Manchester United, making his debut in 2022 before moving to Chelsea in the summer of 2025. Aston Villa had previously expressed interest in signing him at that time. During his time at Stamford Bridge, he made 43 appearances, scoring eight goals and providing four assists, but failed to fully establish himself as a key player.
The move for Garnacho arrives after Villa completed the signing of Swiss midfielder Johan Manzambi to replace Morgan Rogers, who departed for Chelsea for a club-record fee. Garnacho’s arrival is viewed as a direct reinforcement of Villa’s attacking line, providing manager Unai Emery with further options in wide areas. This loan deal allows Aston Villa to assess Garnacho’s suitability before committing to a significant permanent transfer, while offering the player a platform to potentially rediscover his best form in a new environment.
This transfer could prove beneficial for both clubs, with Chelsea potentially recouping a substantial fee if Garnacho performs well, and Aston Villa gaining a talented winger who could contribute to their ambitions in the Premier League and European competitions.
