Atalanta are actively pursuing reinforcements in midfield ahead of the upcoming season, with Cagliari’s Gianluca Gaetano nearing a move to the club for a reported fee of €15 million. Further contacts are planned to finalize the transfer, according to reports in Italy. Alongside Gaetano, the Bergamo outfit are also monitoring Parma’s Mandela Keita and, notably, AC Milan’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who previously played under current Atalanta manager Maurizio Sarri during their time together at Chelsea.
Sarri is familiar with Loftus-Cheek, having also attempted to bring him to Lazio last season. Atalanta are also showing interest in Napoli’s Antonio Vergara, though the Neapolitan club are reportedly keen to retain the 2003-born talent and have offered him a contract extension through 2031. However, Como are also strongly pursuing Vergara, viewing him as a potential long-term replacement for Nico Paz.
Elsewhere in Serie A, Napoli are pushing for Lazio defender Mario Gila, with the Spaniard reportedly agreeing to terms on a contract until 2031 worth €3 million per year. A deal remains elusive, however, as Lazio are holding out for a transfer fee in the range of €25-30 million, rejecting Napoli’s current offer of €18 million plus the loan of Rafa Marin. Como are also active in the market for central defenders, with approaches for Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah and Galatasaray’s Davinson Sanchez.
Lazio are set to lose Alessio Romagnoli to Qatari side Al Sadd, with the player expected to sign a three-year contract worth €6 million net per season plus bonuses. Brighton’s Diego Coppola is being considered as a replacement, although Dinamo Zagreb’s asking price of €10-12 million for Sergi Dominguez is proving a stumbling block. Roma are progressing well in contract negotiations with key players including Celik, Pellegrini, Dybala and Mancini, hoping to secure their long-term futures at the club. Roma are also in advanced talks with Mason Greenwood’s representatives, discussing a loan deal with an obligation to buy from Marseille for a total package of around €50 million.
Venezia have secured the signings of Lisman from Lech Poznan and Bella-Kotchap from Verona. Cagliari are close to signing Alessandro Romano from Roma for €7 million, and remain interested in Michael Aebischer. Several players, including Fiori, Cittadini and Raimondo, are poised to return to Frosinone following their promotion to Serie A.
