Atalanta are considering a move for Cristiano Giuntoli as their new sporting director, according to comments made by club CEO Luca Percassi at an event in Portofino. The potential arrival of Giuntoli coincides with ongoing discussions regarding the future of current sporting director Tony D'Amico, whose position at the club is under review.
Percassi stated that the club is evaluating its options with D'Amico, acknowledging his professionalism and significant contributions to Atalanta. While no final decision has been made, Percassi indicated that the club would be prepared to appoint a successor should D'Amico depart, praising his capabilities and predicting future success elsewhere. D’Amico has been linked with moves to both Milan and Roma.
Giuntoli, currently one of the most highly-regarded directors in Italian football, has attracted interest from numerous clubs. Percassi expressed his admiration for Giuntoli’s work and stated his hope that the two parties can reach an agreement, though he acknowledged the competition for his services. Giuntoli most recently oversaw a period of success at Napoli, building the squad that secured the Serie A title in the 2022-23 season.
Beyond director changes, Percassi also addressed the future of manager Gian Piero Gasperini, stating that a discussion regarding his future will take place at the end of the season. He also commented on potential player departures, specifically mentioning Ederson, who has reportedly been of interest to Manchester United, but confirmed that the club has not yet received any official offers for the player. Percassi emphasized the club’s commitment to evaluating any offers calmly once the current season concludes. The club secured a seventh-place finish in Serie A, qualifying for the Conference League, and Percassi highlighted the importance of this achievement given the challenges faced following Gasperini’s departure.
