Gianluca Scamacca will remain at Atalanta despite reported interest from Roma, the club has effectively communicated. The Italian forward, who scored 14 goals in the recently concluded season, is considered central to Atalanta’s plans moving forward. Despite a campaign marked by inconsistency and two managerial changes, Scamacca finished as the team’s top scorer.
Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini, who previously worked with Scamacca during his time at Atalanta, reportedly expressed a desire to reunite with the player. However, Atalanta are firm in their decision not to sell, viewing Scamacca as a key component of their attack under incoming manager Maurizio Sarri, whose appointment is expected to be announced imminently. The club intends for him to lead the line, a message relayed to officials at Roma.
Scamacca arrived at Atalanta in the summer of 2023 from West Ham for a fee of approximately €28 million, quickly establishing himself as an important player and contributing to the team’s Europa League victory at the end of the season. His progress was temporarily hampered by a double leg injury sustained between the summer of 2024 and the beginning of 2025, impacting his overall form.
Competition for a starting position will come from Nikola Krstovic, but Atalanta believe this internal challenge will benefit both players. Market speculation surrounding Scamacca is considered natural given his quality and recent performances. The Italian national team will also be monitoring his development closely as a new era begins for Atalanta. He is expected to be present at the start of pre-season training.
