Atletico Madrid Close In on Atalanta Midfielder Ederson
Atletico Madrid are advancing in their pursuit of Atalanta midfielder Ederson, with an agreement in principle already in place with the player for a summer move, according to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano. The two clubs are now negotiating a transfer fee, which is expected to be in the region of €35-40 million for the Brazilian international, whose contract with the Italian side runs until 2027.
Romano reported on his YouTube channel that Atletico had already attempted to sign the 26-year-old during the January window, alongside teammate Ademola Lookman, but succeeded only in acquiring the latter. The strong relationship between the clubs, fostered by several past deals, is now facilitating talks for Ederson. The midfielder was also previously a target for Manchester United during Ruben Amorim's brief tenure, but he is now poised for a switch to La Liga.
Ederson has established himself as a dynamic and combative presence in Atalanta's engine room since joining from Salernitana in 2022. His consistent performances have been central to Gian Piero Gasperini's side, making his potential departure a significant loss. For Atletico Madrid, managed by Diego Simeone, securing a player of Ederson's profile addresses a long-standing need for more physicality and energy in central midfield.
The move signals Atletico's intent to refresh their squad after a transitional season. Ederson's box-to-box style is seen as an ideal fit for Simeone's demanding system. Meanwhile, Atalanta's history of securing substantial fees for key players, such as Rasmus Hojlund and Cristian Romero, suggests they will drive a hard bargain despite the player's apparent willingness to move.
In other updates from Romano, Manchester City have presented midfielder Rodri with a new contract offer amid sustained interest from Real Madrid. The Spanish international, whose current deal expires in 2027, has publicly praised the La Liga giants, but City are determined to retain him and will not sanction a cut-price sale if he opts against renewing. The ball is now in Rodri's court to decide on his future.
Barcelona forward Ferran Torres could also be part of summer movement, with the Catalan club open to listening to significant offers, though they are not actively pushing him out. The 24-year-old remains content at Camp Nou, meaning any departure would require a compelling proposal for both club and player.
Furthermore, Romano addressed links between Arsenal and Club Brugge striker Nicolo Tresoldi, stating that despite the player's impressive form in Belgium, there are no advanced or concrete discussions with the Gunners at this stage. The same applies to interest in Inter Milan's young forward Pio Esposito, with Arsenal currently focused on other targets as they plan for the upcoming window.
