Atletico Madrid are once again showing interest in Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Aleix García, with reports from Diario AS indicating a potential €25 million bid could be forthcoming. This marks the third attempt by Los Colchoneros to secure the 28-year-old, having previously failed in approaches during both summer and January transfer windows.
García joined Leverkusen from Girona in the summer of 2024, signing a contract that runs until 2029. While his current market value is estimated around €20 million, Leverkusen are expected to demand approximately €25 million for his sale. This valuation positions García as a more affordable option compared to other midfield targets Atletico are considering, such as Sporting CP’s Morten Hjulmand, who is valued closer to €45 million.
The Spanish midfielder enjoyed a standout 2025-26 season, starting 33 Bundesliga matches, appearing in 12 Champions League games, and making five appearances in the German Cup, totaling 50 official appearances and contributing six goals and eleven assists. His consistent performances earned him a place in the Bundesliga’s Team of the Season, alongside players like Joshua Kimmich and Harry Kane. These statistics highlight the qualities Atletico are seeking in a midfielder – efficiency, work rate, and goal contributions.
García himself has acknowledged Atletico’s interest, stating in February that contact was made during the winter window but a move didn’t materialize. However, he expressed openness to playing for one of Spain’s top clubs, while also emphasizing his satisfaction at Leverkusen. This suggests García is not actively seeking a transfer but would be receptive to a suitable offer. Atletico’s existing dialogue with Leverkusen regarding Alejandro Grimaldo could potentially facilitate negotiations, or conversely, complicate matters.
Atletico’s midfield recruitment extends beyond García, with the club also exploring options with Manchester City players. The next step will be whether Atletico submit a formal offer for García, and whether Leverkusen are willing to negotiate their €25 million asking price, given the player’s age and remaining contract length.
