Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has joined Deportivo La Corogne on a permanent transfer from Marseille, the Spanish club confirmed. The Gabon international has signed a contract with the La Liga side that runs until 2028. Marseille are expected to receive a fee of approximately €1.5 million for the 37-year-old.
Aubameyang’s departure from Marseille comes after a second spell with the club proved less impactful than his first. He had returned to the Orange Velodrome after a stint in Saudi Arabia, but was not a consistent starter for the Ligue 1 side. This move marks the twelfth club of Aubameyang’s career to date.
The forward previously played in Spain with Barcelona, making 18 appearances and scoring 11 goals during a six-month period in 2022. He will be hoping to recapture that form with Deportivo La Corogne, who finished twelfth in La Liga last season. He will bring a wealth of experience to the club, having also played for clubs such as Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal, and AC Milan.
Aubameyang’s time at Marseille was hampered by inconsistent form and increased competition for places. Despite a prolific goalscoring record throughout his career, he struggled to establish himself as a key player under the current management. Deportivo La Corogne will be hoping he can provide a significant attacking threat as they look to improve their league position next season. The transfer provides Aubameyang with a continued opportunity to play at a high level and extend his professional career.
