FC Augsburg are in advanced negotiations with TSG Hoffenheim regarding a permanent transfer for full-back Hennes Behrens, according to Sky Germany. The Bundesliga club are seeking to bolster their defensive options with the 21-year-old, although the deal is currently contingent on the departure of current left-back Dimitrios Giannoulis.
Augsburg are hoping Giannoulis will complete a move to Greek Super League side PAOK, but discussions between the two clubs are reportedly facing complications. Should Giannoulis’ transfer to PAOK materialize, it will pave the way for Behrens to move to the WWK Arena. Augsburg are prioritizing a permanent deal, indicating a long-term vision for the player within their squad.
Behrens spent the latter half of the 2025/26 season on loan at Heidenheim, gaining valuable Bundesliga experience. He made 16 appearances for the club, contributing one goal and two assists. Despite his contributions, Heidenheim were ultimately relegated to the 2. Bundesliga at the end of the season. This relegation may have limited his opportunities for continued top-flight football with his parent club.
Behrens initially progressed through the Hoffenheim youth academy, demonstrating his commitment to the club before seeking more consistent first-team minutes. While he has shown promise, opportunities at Hoffenheim have been limited, making a move to Augsburg an attractive option for regular game time. Augsburg, meanwhile, are in a rebuilding phase and are looking to integrate young talent into their squad.
The potential arrival of Behrens would provide Augsburg with a dynamic and energetic presence on the left side of their defense. If the transfer is completed, it will likely strengthen Augsburg’s defensive capabilities and offer competition for places in the full-back positions.
