FC Augsburg sporting director Benjamin Weber has addressed speculation surrounding the futures of attacking players Mert Kömür and Alexis Claude-Maurice, confirming both have attracted interest from other clubs.
Kömür, 20, started 16 of Augsburg’s 33 Bundesliga matches last season and has reportedly been seeking more consistent playing time, leading to speculation of a summer move. Previous links have included Besiktas, AC Milan and FC Porto, but according to Sky Sports and Kicker, Club Brugge of Belgium are currently showing the strongest interest. Kömür is under contract with Augsburg until 2029.
Claude-Maurice, a Frenchman, enjoyed a productive season with five goals and four assists in the Bundesliga, attracting attention from clubs in his home country. However, his contract situation is different, with only one year remaining on his current deal, potentially pushing Augsburg to consider a sale if an extension cannot be agreed.
Weber acknowledged the interest in both players, describing them as having “big markets”, but stressed that no concrete offers have been made at this stage. He attributed the relatively quiet market to the ongoing World Cup tournament, suggesting clubs may be holding off on significant moves until the competition concludes.
“First of all, we are pretty happy that other clubs or people are talking about our players,” Weber told Bulinews.com. “That means we have a stage to develop not only youth players, but also players like Alexis, who came to us at an older age. This means other high-potential talents would like to join FC Augsburg because they know we can write a story and develop together.”
Weber also indicated that Augsburg are open to allowing players to pursue opportunities for growth and improved contracts. “If there’s a possibility for them to grow and maybe have bigger contracts in a bigger league, everybody can dream, and everybody has this objective,” he said. He did, however, state that both players have expressed happiness at Augsburg, particularly following their recent form. Kömür nearly doubled his playing time from the previous season, while Claude-Maurice contributed significantly to the team’s goals in the latter half of the campaign.
Despite the external interest, Augsburg are currently planning to retain both players for the upcoming season. “For now, we plan with Mert and Alexis, that’s for sure,” Weber confirmed. “But the market is not really open yet, so let’s see.”
Benjamin Weber has served as FC Augsburg’s sporting director since the summer of 2025, overseeing the club’s transfer strategy and player development.
