Ligue 1 side Auxerre have confirmed the permanent signing of forward Danny Namaso from FC Porto, the club announced on Thursday. The 25-year-old, who spent last season on loan with Auxerre, has signed a contract that runs until 2029. The financial details of the transfer were not disclosed by either club.
Namaso played a key role in Auxerre’s successful fight to avoid relegation, finishing 15th in Ligue 1 last season. He made 32 appearances across all competitions for the Burgundy-based club, scoring five goals. His goals against Toulouse, Rennes, and Brest were specifically highlighted by Auxerre as being crucial to their top-flight survival.
The Cameroonian international initially joined Auxerre on a season-long loan in the summer of 2023, having struggled for consistent playing time at Porto. He previously played for clubs in Portugal’s second tier before joining Porto’s B team, and eventually earning a spot in the first team squad. However, he found opportunities limited and the move to Auxerre offered a chance to establish himself as a regular starter.
Auxerre praised Namaso’s technical and physical qualities, as well as his connection with the club’s supporters at the Abbé-Deschamps stadium. The club also noted that his performances for Auxerre contributed to his regaining a starting position with the Cameroon national team, where he featured during the recent Africa Cup of Nations tournament. Securing Namaso on a long-term deal provides Auxerre with a proven goalscorer and a key attacking option as they look to consolidate their position in Ligue 1.
