Auxerre have agreed a deal to sign goalkeeper Mamadou Diop from Grenoble, according to L’Équipe. The 26-year-old Mauritanian international is expected to sign a four-year contract with the Burgundy-based club.
Diop has been a prominent figure in Ligue 2 with Grenoble, establishing himself as one of the most sought-after goalkeepers in the division. His height – listed at 2.04m – and increasingly assured performances attracted interest from several Ligue 1 clubs, most notably Brest. Auxerre, however, made Diop their priority target and successfully navigated negotiations with Grenoble to secure his signature.
Diop has earned seven caps for the Mauritania national team, becoming a key player for the side. He joined Grenoble in 2021 and quickly became a mainstay in their starting eleven, contributing to their consistent challenge at the top end of Ligue 2. While specific financial details of the transfer have not been disclosed, the move represents a significant step up in Diop’s career.
Auxerre finished 16th in Ligue 1 last season, narrowly avoiding relegation. Strengthening their goalkeeping options was identified as a key area for improvement during the transfer window, and the acquisition of Diop addresses that need. The signing provides competition and depth in the goalkeeping department and positions Auxerre to build upon their survival in the top flight.
