Manchester United could still sign Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba before the summer transfer window closes, according to journalist Dylan McBennett. The possibility of a deal remains active despite previous complications, with no final decision yet made by the club.
United initially showed interest in Baleba last summer, but Brighton’s £100 million valuation proved prohibitive for the club’s ownership, INEOS. That figure has since dropped to £70 million, making a move more feasible. Fabrizio Romano has reported that Baleba himself is keen on a transfer to Old Trafford, and his representatives have been in contact with the club.
Baleba, a Cameroon international, has established himself as a key player for Brighton since joining the club. The 22-year-old’s performances have attracted attention from top Premier League clubs, and his arrival at United would bolster their midfield options. United have already secured the signings of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans this window.
The potential move for Baleba is complicated by internal division within United regarding other midfield targets, particularly AS Roma’s Manu Kone. While personal terms have reportedly been agreed with Kone, not all figures at the club are convinced of his suitability. This uncertainty over Kone may increase the likelihood of pursuing Baleba. United have also ruled out a move for Danilo of Botafogo, with Romano stating the club have ‘different priorities’ in midfield.
The situation remains fluid, but Baleba’s desire to join United, coupled with the ongoing debate over Kone, suggests a transfer is still possible before the window closes. Securing Baleba would provide manager Michael Carrick with another quality option in a crucial area of the pitch.
